Mr. Apurba Saha is the Director & ExCo Member, Cairn India Ltd. He is also the Chairman of Technical Forum Committee. He completed his master’s Degree from IIT, Kharagpur in Exploration Geosciences and M.Tech from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, then Mr. saha joined E & P industry in 1975. He has more than 39yrs of experiences in E&P Industries. Mr. Saha conceptualized and executed number of high value projects in Indian Offshore and also been instrumental in inducting number of new Tools, Techniques & Technologies not only for the first time in ONGC but also in India. Mr.Saha was the OSD (offshore) and Asset Manager of India’s largest producing Asset, Mumbai High of ONGC before joining cairn India.

Dr Achintya Pal:
After doing his Bachelor’s from Presidency College and Masters from University of Calcutta, Dr Achintya Pal did PhD in Theoretical Physics from The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai where he developed interest in Astronomy and Astrophysics. He spent two years as visiting fellow at the Institute for Geophysics at the University of Texas at Austin. Among his other interests are Hindustani classical music and study of literature. The author is a retired executive of Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the national oil company of India. Over the years, he is considered as an expert in oil exploration related geodesy and map projection systems and in Geographical Information System (GIS). A visit to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich kindled his interest in the Longitude Problem.

Dr. Subrata Chakraborty, Vice President, SPG Kolkata Chapter, DGM (GP) joined ONGC in the year 1983 as Geophysicist (Surface) in Dehradun, Computer Services Division. He has experience in seismic data processing of onshore and offshore data using different vintage of hardware and software version. He has vast experience in seismic data acquisition .He started journey as observer in field, and finally elevated to In charge operation . He has handled contract management, procurement and other technical issue . He acted as in charge data processing in Kolkata. Presently he is Head of Geophysical services of Kolkata region.

Dr. Partha Mitra , did his MSc from IIT Kharagpur in 1982 in Exploration Geophysics followed by M.Tech in Geophysical Instrumentation from ISM Dhanbad. He was awarded PhD in 4D Seismic & Brown Field Development by OU-NGRI, Hyderabad in 2009. He is the recipient of the National Mineral Award 2001 in the field of Geophysics by Govt. of India and also NPMP Innovation Award 2004-05 by Secretary – Ministry of Petroleum , Govt. of India. He started his career as a field Geophysicist in ONGC and subsequently moved to seismic data processing and interpretation. He has worked in different areas of specialization such as exploration, reservoir management , field development, new venture, joint venture, executive management etc. He stared his career as a field Geophysicist in ONGC and subsequently moved to seismic data processing and interpretation. Partha is currently working in Cairn India as General Manager, leading the unconventional hydrocarbon plays group for the Company. He has served as Technical Chairman / Member Technical Program Committee / Judge Student Forum in Seismic Technology of several International Conferences of SPE- Indonesia, Australia, IPTC, Qatar & IQPC, UAE (2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011) in Asia Pacific, Middle East & Asia. He is an active Member of SEG, SPE and Life Member of SPG India

Mr S K Das is an alumni of IIT, Kharagpur. He completed his M, SC. In Exploration Gephysics in 1976. Soon after he Joined ONGC as Graduate Trainee (1977) and recently superannuated (Dec. 2013) from ONGC as Executive Director. 36 years ( 1978-2013) of hands on and supervisory professional experience in all facets of petroleum exploration in ONGC, including GM & Seismic data acquisition, Seismic data processing and interpretation of Geo-scientific data, leading to prospect identification and exploratory drilling and hydrocarbon finds. Domain specialisation in seismic data processing and advance interpretation methods. Conceptualised and executed several important projects in ONGC- notable are, induction of PC clusters for seismic data processing, corporatisation of interpretation software, induction of new technologies etc. He was head of institute “GEOPIC”, a premier R&D centre of ONGC for a period of seven years (2005-2012). In the last posting, lead the Largest on land basin of ONGC- western on land basin (WON) as Basin Manager (2012-2013) and was responsible for the overall exploration activities of the basin. Was posted in DGH (Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India), on deputation from ONGC ( 1997-2004), where significant contributions were made in the formative years of NELP ( New Exploration Licensing Policy) regime in India. Positive contributions were made in Human Resource development through technical lectures in ONGC Academy and guiding university students during summer training and dissertation projects. Published many technical reports for internal use in ONGC and published few technical papers in journals. Received best paper award from SPG. Received best manager award of CMD, ONGC. Conceptualised and executed a cutting edge collaborative R & D project with I I T, Kharagpur (2011-2012). He is one of five founder Members (Vice President) of SPG. Present president of SPG (2012-2014)


ONGC:Recent Trends for Exploration of Gas Hydrates

Dr. Anand Prakash is Chief Geophysicists (Surface) in ONGC and a specialist in seismic data processing, at Regional Computer Centre, Kolkata. His expertise lies in seismic depth imaging. Dr. Anand received his Ph.D. degree in Geophysics from BHU Varanasi in 2013 at the age of 49 years which shows his academic excellence and continuous pursuit of acquiring knowledge. He has also obtained his MBA degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in 2001. He obtained his bachelor and master’s degrees from Banaras Hindu University in 1986 and 1989 respectively. Dr. Anand has published more than 15 technical papers in various national and international journals. He has presented his research findings in various national and international conferences and expositions organised by the societies such as EAGE, SPG, Petrotech etc. He is a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, USA. He is presently Secretary of Society of Petroleum Geophysicists Kolkata Chapter. A respected educator, mentor, researcher and author, Dr. Anand enjoys interacting with the students and teaching them, guiding them on various aspects of Geophysics. He has been the faculty for various courses conducted for ONGC executives at ONGC Academy Dehradun, Kolkata, and Ahamedabad. He is best known for his knowledge of Seismic data processing and seismic data acquisition. He has wide experience in seismic data processing, seismic data acquisition in Hilly terrain of Assam & Assam Arakan Basin, and 3D survey design. He also has experience in multi-component seismic data acquisition. His research interest lies in gas hydrate exploration. Presently, he is working on seismic characterization of gas hydrate reservoir. Dr. Anand is the recipient of Young Executive of the year award by CMD ONGC. He has been awarded regularly by ONGC for his outstanding contributions in the field of Geosciences.
